To Whom it May Concern,

I have been requested by Tyler Rose to describe his growth as a teacher over the past year and a half. Tyler began his teaching career the weekend before the first day of school in August 2022. He came to Evergreen Academy Middle School, the current school he is employed at, as a provisional teacher. With no formal teacher training or mentoring Tyler relied on his experience as a substitute teacher to unsurely survive his way through the first month of school. It became obvious that, with some assistance, he would need to develop a plan to perform as a full-time classroom teacher and not as a substitute teacher.

Tyler was faced with a tremendous challenge that could affect his future as a teacher and the career path he chose. Immediately, we began to meet early in the morning twice a week to tutor Tyler on the very basics of which a teacher must operate. Tyler was concerned but showed up everyday for our tutoring sessions. His determination to learn and apply all matters he needed to improve upon was phenomenal. This is not to say that adjustments were needed in some of Tyler’s present classroom. Additionally, he needed to create relationships with students to show them that he not only cared about what he taught, but that he cared about his students. There were a few bleak times when things were not going as planned and suggestions were difficult to execute.  Nevertheless, Tyler hung in and kept persevering.

Hard work, tremendous dedication, and a very strong desire to learn the craft of teaching has paid off for Tyler. He is now well-established within the classroom and has developed a rapport second to none with his students. This has paid off in dividends for Tyler because now he can teach and maintain order within the classroom that gives him the flexibility to be creative with the project-based lessons he has incorporated into the classroom. Finally, it has been a pleasure to mentor Tyler because of his desire and willingness to listen and experiment with various strategies that could positively impact his and his students’ experiences in the classroom.

Sincerely,

Paul Kanelos

Evergreen Academy Middle School
